Job Description

Position Summary

We are seeking experienced Mates of Towing with wire tug experience for multiple opportunities. Candidates must have hands-on experience working aboard wire tugboats and towing astern.

The Mate will assist the Captain with the safe, efficient, and compliant operation of the vessel while supporting towing operations, vessel handling, navigational watches, and deck activities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Stand navigational watches and assist with the safe operation of the tug.
  • Assist the Captain with towing operations, vessel handling, docking, and undocking.
  • Participate in wire towing and towing astern operations.
  • Oversee and support deck activities and towing evolutions.
  • Ensure vessel operations comply with applicable USCG, safety, environmental, and company requirements.
  • Conduct and participate in required safety drills, training, inspections, and audits.
  • Promote safe work practices and support overall crew performance.
  • Maintain situational awareness during towing and vessel maneuvering operations.
  • Perform additional vessel and operational duties as assigned by the Captain.

Required Qualifications

  • USCG Mate of Towing endorsement
  • Minimum 200-Ton Near Coastal endorsement
  • Valid USCG Medical Certificate
  • Valid TWIC Card
  • STCW preferred and required for certain assignments
  • Must meet all applicable company and regulatory requirements for the assigned vessel

Required Experience

  • Previous experience serving as a Mate aboard wire tugboats
  • Towing astern experience is required
  • Strong knowledge of wire towing operations, vessel handling, and safe towing practices
  • Mud scow towing experience strongly preferred
  • Ability to work effectively within a rotational vessel environment

Compensation

$650–$750 per day

Final day rate will depend on experience, credentials, vessel assignment, and company.

Schedule

Multiple rotational schedules are available, including:

  • Equal-time rotations
  • 2:1 rotations
