Responsibilities

As the Mate of Towing, you will assist the Captain in the safe and efficient operation of the tugboat while ensuring compliance with all company, regulatory, and environmental standards. Responsibilities include:

  • Assist the Captain with the safe navigation and operation of the vessel.
  • Stand navigational watches and maintain situational awareness.
  • Conduct docking, undocking, and towing operations.
  • Supervise deck operations and ensure safe work practices.
  • Participate in safety drills, inspections, and vessel audits.
  • Ensure compliance with U.S. Coast Guard regulations and company policies.
  • Support crew development and maintain a positive team environment.
  • Perform additional vessel duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Mate of Towing endorsement (Minimum 200 GRT)
  • Great Lakes or Near Coastal endorsement required
  • Valid USCG Medical Certificate
  • STCW not required
  • Must be eligible to enter Canada (No DUI convictions)

Experience

  • Experience serving as Mate aboard wire tugboats
  • Experience with towing astern operations required
  • Great Lakes experience preferred; strong candidates without recent Great Lakes time will be considered
