Position Summary:
The Experienced AB Tugboat Deckhand at Curtin Maritime is essential for the proper functioning and operation of marine transportation vessels. Adhering to the core values of efficiency, innovation, and integrity, Deckhands II and III perform a wide range of duties from vessel maintenance to deck operations under the guidance of the Port Captain and Vessel Captain, maintaining the Curtin Standard onboard.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Independently work on projects and complete tasks safely as directed by the supervisor, while proactively learning and becoming proficient with various vessels in the fleet.
  • Conduct deck operations including making and breaking tow in various configurations, handling lines, and performing basic maintenance such as painting, greasing, and rigging.
  • Assist with engine room duties such as reading gauges, logging operations, identifying anomalies, performing basic maintenance, and tracing systems.
  • Maintain fresh water levels, provision shopping, inventorying, cooking, and ensuring clean living quarters.
  • Lead the deck crew for all operations and identify maintenance needs to plan and execute corrective projects and tasks.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • TWIC Card, valid MMC, CG Medical Certificate, and Passport are required.
  • STCW Basic Training and Able Body Seaman Endorsement (specializing in maritime transport or dredging depending on the position).
  • Marlinspike seamanship skills, encompassing splices and knots.
  • Experience with Vessel Management Systems and the ability to run the deck efficiently.
  • Strong orientation towards safety practices and high personal hygiene standards.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to traverse uneven ground, climb at various heights, and lift at least 40 pounds safely.
  • Must pass a "fit for duty" examination, including a pre-employment physical and drug test.

Work Environment:

  • The position is not entry-level and is suited for experienced deckhands with the ability to handle stressful situations and perform emergency duties proficiently.
  • Full-time position with a significant time/travel away from home; rotating schedule that frequently requires weekend work and offshore travel.

Reporting:

  • Reports directly to the Port Captain and Vessel Captain and is expected to work in collaboration with other marine transportation crew members.

Compensation:
Competitive salary with a generous benefits package including medical, dental, vision, short-term disability, life insurance, and 401(k) with matching contributions. Salary ranges from $300 - $475 per day, commensurate with the Deckhand level and experience.
