Responsibilities:
- Perform as master aboard Company tugs during harbor assist operations, as needed and where needed;
- Serve as master/mate aboard Company tugs during outside towing operations,
- Maintain a working knowledge of:
- Federal Regulations for the Inspection of Towing Vessels (46 CFR Subchapter M);
- Company Policies and Procedures, including the Company's Towing Safety Management System.
- Conduct oversight o f tug maintenance, including Life Saving Equipment, Navigation Equipment, and Vessel Documentation.
- Review outstanding maintenance Items to ensure that the tugs are maintained and repaired to a seaworthy and safe condition.
- Travel, as needed, to the Company's tug docks located throughout the Great Lakes system to perform towing assignments (both harbor towing and cross lake towing).
- Make recommendations for changes to Towing Safety Management System;
- Ensure vessels are crewed, operated, and maintained in accordance with regulatory requirements, company standards, and customer expectations;
- Implement standard procedures and guidelines for the operation of a safe and environmentally sound fleet;
- Investigate vessel damage and personal injuries;
- Ensure all vessel personnel comply with regulatory training requirements;
- Supervise unlicensed personnel;
Skills and Abilities:
- Must have strong MS Word & Excel skills;
- Must be able to manage Captains, Engineers, and Deckhands;
- Must be able to interact with others using courtesy, tact, and good judgment;
- Must have strong communication and leadership skills;
- Must be able to work independently with minimal to no guidance;
- Must be very familiar with tug operations and repair and maintenance of marine equipment;
Qualifications:
- Must maintain a valid USCG Master of Towing Vessel License with Radar Observer endorsement;
- Must have a Marine Radio Operator Permit;
- Must have a valid Adult CPR and FA card;
- Must have a valid Driver's License;
- Must have a valid U. S. Passport
Job Conditions and Work Environment:
- Must be able to work in all weather conditions (rain, ice, snow, heat, wind, heavy seas, etc.);
- Must be able to adapt to a variety of schedules and hours;
- Must be able to work weekends, holidays, and at night on short notice.
Pay: $800 / day
$100 / day per diem
Schedule: 14 days on /14 days off or 21 days on /21 days off
