Responsibilities

As the Chief Engineer, you will be responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the vessel's engineering department, including:

  • Overseeing the operation, maintenance, and repair of main propulsion systems.
  • Maintaining generators, auxiliary machinery, and vessel mechanical systems.
  • Operating and maintaining specialized towing and wire winch equipment.
  • Troubleshooting mechanical and electrical issues to minimize downtime.
  • Ensuring compliance with company policies, USCG regulations, and safety standards.
  • Maintaining accurate maintenance records and engineering logs.
  • Leading preventative maintenance programs to maximize vessel reliability.

Qualifications

  • USCG Licensed Chief Engineer – Minimum DDE 4,000 HP (Required)
  • Valid Merchant Mariner Credential (MMC)
  • Valid TWIC Card
  • Current USCG Medical Certificate
  • STCW not required
  • Must be eligible to travel into Canada (No DUI convictions that would restrict entry)

Preferred Experience

  • Previous experience serving as an Engineer aboard tugboats.
  • Experience working with Caterpillar marine engines preferred.
  • Strong troubleshooting and preventative maintenance skills.

Compensation

  • $675 per day
  • Annual performance bonus: $10,000–$15,000
