Ship Mechanic

Position Summary: St. Johns Shipbuilding is seeking a skilled Ship Mechanic/Marine Diesel Mechanic to join our experienced team in Palatka, FL. This role requires an in-depth understanding of marine diesel engines and systems, and the successful candidate will be pivotal in ensuring the maintenance, repair, and proper function of these crucial ship components.

Key Responsibilities:

• Inspect, diagnose, and repair marine diesel engines and associated systems.
• Perform routine maintenance and overhauls, following manufacturer guidelines and industry best practices.
• Use diagnostic tools and equipment to test engine performance and troubleshoot issues.
• Coordinate with other team members to facilitate efficient workflow and share expertise.
• Maintain service records and logs, documenting all maintenance and repair activities.
• Stay updated on advancements in diesel engine technology and apply new techniques to improve operation and reduce downtime.

Required Education, Experience, & Skills:

• Proficient experience as a Marine Diesel Mechanic with demonstrated knowledge of diesel engine mechanics.
• Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and blueprints.
• Familiarity with common hand tools, specialized equipment, and diagnostic software used in marine engine repair.
• Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail to ensure reliable engine performance.
• Commitment to safety standards and protocols within a marine environment.
