Job Description

Position Summary: St. Johns Shipbuilding is inviting applications for the role of Marine Estimator at our facility in Palatka, FL. As a Marine Estimator, you will play an instrumental role in the financial planning of shipbuilding projects, from concept to completion. Your responsibilities will involve detailed financial analysis, cost estimation, and consultation with engineering teams to provide accurate bids that align with our strategic objectives and ensure project profitability.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Accurately determine costs of manufacturing, construction, and services by analyzing blueprints, specifications, and related documents.
  • Develop itemized work breakdown structures and estimates that factor in material, labor, equipment, and overhead costs.
  • Engage with suppliers and subcontractors to solicit cost data and negotiate pricing to support bid proposals.
  • Utilize industry-specific software for cost modeling, risk assessment, and scenario planning to optimize bid strategies and manage margins.
  • Prepare and present estimation and bid documentation, including detailed rationales for cost assumptions.
  • Work cross-functionally with design, engineering, procurement, and project management teams to ensure cohesiveness of cost information throughout the project lifecycle.

Required Education, Experience, & Skills:

  • Extensive marine estimation experience, ideally within a shipbuilding or heavy manufacturing context.
  • Familiarity with various types of construction and manufacturing methods utilized in the marine industry.
  • Adept at reading and interpreting engineering drawings and technical documentation.
  • Strong critical thinking skills coupled with expertise in financial modeling and budgeting.
  • Exceptional communication abilities for articulating cost-related information to diverse stakeholders.
