Position Summary:
BAE Systems is looking for a Spray Painter to join their Platforms & Services team in York, Pennsylvania. The primary function of this role is to execute proper surface preparation and perform spray painting tasks on various assembly parts, vehicles, subassemblies, and miscellaneous plant equipment according to commercial and government standards. The person in this role must handle various painting tools and equipment, comply with specific procedures, ensure the quality of work, and maintain a safe and clean environment. High School Diploma or GED and at least 2 years of experience or equivalent training in spray painting are necessary for this position, along with specific certifications and skills pertinent to the job responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Clean and prepare surfaces of parts prior to painting, including loading and unloading from paint conveyor lines.
  • Utilize various spray painting tools and equipment such as pressure pots, spray guns, and nozzles to apply paints and coatings.
  • Conduct surface preparation ensuring proper cleanliness and readiness for painting/coating.
  • Apply paints and coatings according to specified color, consistency, texture, thickness, and surface finish requirements.
  • Engage in the handling of paints, thinners, primers, sealants, anti-skid materials, and various chemicals.
  • Maintain all painting tools and booths, ensuring a clean workspace and adherence to safety standards.
  • Load and unload parts from conveyor lines for cleaning and painting tasks.

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • At least 2 years of experience or equivalent training.
  • NESHAP certification preferred.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with Heavy Manufacturing Industrial Coatings.
  • Familiarity with CARC Painting is beneficial but not required.
  • Expertise in safe handling of solvents and chemicals.
  • Proficient in adjusting, blending, and troubleshooting paint equipment.
  • Ability to read wet Film Thickness Gage.
  • Pass a Pulmonary Function test as required for the job.
  • Ability to identify and correct paint defects.
  • Knowledge of proper cleaning and maintenance of paint equipment.
  • Ability to read and interpret Product Data Sheets.

Work Environment and Physical Requirements:

  • Full-time onsite position requiring the ability to work in confined spaces, at various heights and to drive vehicles.
  • Must be able to climb in and out of structures and vehicles.

Reporting:
The Spray Painter position will report directly to the Process Supervisor, Assistant Process Supervisor, or follow the guidance of a Lead Person or Self-Directed Work Team.
