Position Summary:
BAE Systems is seeking a skilled Painter to join its Platforms & Services sector in Anniston, Alabama. The role includes the detailed and critical task of ensuring proper surface preparation and the painting of a wide variety of component parts, assemblies, hulls, and accessories to exact specifications. Additionally, the chosen candidate may be responsible for applying coatings other than paint. This position requires expertise in preparing parts and hulls for paint, masking and plugging areas not designated for painting, efficiently mixing and applying various types of coatings, and maintaining all painting equipment in compliance with environmental disposal procedures.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare component parts and hulls for painting by ensuring a clean surface.
  • Mask and plug sections that do not require painting or coating.
  • Mix, thin, and blend paints and other coatings to correct color and consistency according to instructions.
  • Adjust and operate spray painting equipment to ensure proper application texture, thickness, and finish.
  • Apply primer and top coats, including epoxy and polyurethane CARC and LINE-X coatings.
  • Clean and maintain painting equipment and perform preventive maintenance and housekeeping tasks.
  • Dispose of waste by-products generated from painting processes in an environmentally approved manner.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Ability to pass pre-hire training and work effectively in a team-oriented environment.
  • Proficiency in safely meeting standards of the position, including productivity requirements.
  • Capable of working in confined spaces with a full protective suit or an approved respirator.
  • Skilled in accurately measuring, mixing, and applying paints per specifications.
  • Comfortable working in small areas and under vehicles to ensure complete paint coverage.
  • Must obtain a forklift and overhead crane license after hire.
  • Decision-making skills are necessary within the paint booth without direct supervision.

Work Environment and Physical Requirements:

  • Full-time onsite position requiring 0% travel and the physical ability to work in various workspaces.

Reporting:
The Painter position will report to the managing supervisor in the manufacturing or paint department.
