Coating Engineer

Position Summary: Hanwha Philly Shipyard in Philadelphia, PA, is poised to employ a Coating Engineer proficient in marine industry practices, specifically concerning various coating systems. The role requires the individual to ensure all safety protocols are met, assist in ship concept development, develop technical specifications, interact with different stakeholders, and maintain paint specifications. The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or substantial experience in ship design and construction, coupled with a strong understanding of marine applications of coating systems.

Key Responsibilities:

• Develop paint area estimates for ship concept development and aid in ship Technical Specifications.
• Maintain Paint Specifications and liaise with owners, design partners, and regulatory bodies.
• Coordinate with the Procurement Department for vendor comparisons.
• Track paint product usage against forecast estimates and develop purchase order specifications.
• Evaluate and improve coating systems to reduce cost and manpower.
• Provide field support for coatings, including answering queries and resolving issues.
• Analyze shipyard VOC statistics for environmental reporting.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or related field preferred.
• Minimum of 3 years' experience in the marine industry, with practical shipyard or consulting experience.
• NACE Coating Inspector Program Level 1 certification preferred; Level 2 is a plus.

Work Environment:

• Industrial setting similar to heavy industry environments with potential exposure to noise, extreme temperatures, and outdoor working conditions.

Physical Demands:

• Lifting, carrying, bending, stooping, climbing, working at heights, and extended walking or standing. Must pass a medical examination to be employed.
