Marine Estimator

Job Description

Position Summary: Alabama Shipyard, established in 1916 and located at the mouth of Mobile River on Pinto Island, AL, is looking for a Marine Estimator. The individual will be responsible for creating cost estimates for engineering, fabrication, manufacturing, assembly, installation, testing, and project support activities under the guidance of the Division Estimating Manager. The role requires in-depth knowledge of marine repair, fabrication methods, and the ability to develop craft man-hours, material, and sub-contract solicitations based on the scope of work.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Review and comprehend technical documents, including specifications and drawings.
  • Itemize work tasks and develop craft man-hours and material requirements for work items.
  • Solicit and coordinate subcontract and material requirements according to the scope.
  • Make high-level decisions and conduct thorough research in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Construction Management preferred.
  • Minimum ten years of experience as a Marine Estimator with relevant maritime knowledge and skills.

  • Ability to derive labor and material requirements from limited detail drawings and specifications.
  • Competent in coordinating with craft leads, vendors, and subcontractors.
