Quality Inspector

Job Description

Position Summary: Austal USA in Mobile, AL is hiring a Quality Inspector I. This individual will be responsible for performing in-process quality assessments during vessel construction using Visual Testing (VT) and other non-destructive testing methods. The inspector's role includes providing guidance to production employees and for workmanship corrections required, documenting, accepting, or rejecting work based on contract criteria, and mentoring other inspectors.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform visual and other non-destructive testing (NDT) inspections during vessel construction.
  • Provide guidance for workmanship corrections and consult with Class Surveyors or Customer Representatives as necessary.
  • Document inspection results and work with production to address potential problems.
  • Mentor and train other inspectors to obtain NDT certification.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma/GED.
  • Minimum six months of experience as a Quality Trades Support II (QTS II) at Austal USA for internal candidates or two years NDT Level II experience for external candidates.
  • Level II certification in Visual Testing (VT).

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be capable of performing tasks that include bending, squatting, climbing, prolonged standing, and entering confined spaces.

Work Environment:

  • The position involves exposure to humid conditions, moving mechanical parts, high places, outside weather conditions, and extreme heat.
