Position Summary: Austal USA, located in Mobile, AL, is offering a prominent role for an A Class Pipe Fitter capable of achieving maximum production, quality, and efficiency within a team environment focused on shipbuilding. Primary duties include reading and interpreting drawings, machine operation, the installation of pipe systems aboard vessels, and problem-solving within the department to enhance quality procedures. The ideal candidate must demonstrate experience in the trade, proficiency in following directions, and the skills required to instruct and develop less-skilled team members.
Key Responsibilities:
- Read and interpret blueprints, diagrams, and specifications to determine layout requirements for pipe systems.
- Measure, cut, thread, and bend piping materials using appropriate tools and machinery.
- Conduct leak tests using specific testing equipment.
- Install support systems for pipes, including clamps, brackets, and hangers.
- Collaborate with supervisors and foremen to ensure quality and productivity within the department.
- Ensure work area cleanliness and organization on assigned job sites.
Qualifications:
- Minimum 1 year of work experience as a B-class pipe fitter at Austal or 2 years in a similar role at another employer.
- Proficiency in reading, writing, mathematical skills, and reasoning ability.
- Ability to liaise effectively with supervisors and foremen.
