Structural Fitter

Position Summary: Austal USA in San Diego, CA is actively seeking an A Class Structural Fitter - SDCA. This position entails executing tasks across diverse aspects of structural fitting from layout to installation with minimal supervision. The A Class Structural Fitter is expected to possess a thorough understanding of blueprints, a working knowledge of cabinet making, carpentry, industrial insulation, HVAC, and basic mechanical skills. The role necessitates physical stamina, adherence to safety protocols, and the ability to work with and train less-skilled workers.

Key Responsibilities:

• Perform layout and preparation of bulkheads, doors, ceilings, and furniture from drawings.
• Install structural joiner items such as bulkheads and consoles with minimal oversight.
• Insulate deck head, side shells, and beams.
• Operate CNC Shear, Break and other machinery.
• Maintain compliance with quality, safety, and environmental regulations.
• Offer guidance to less-experienced colleagues and work on tasks outside of standard responsibilities as required.

Qualifications / Knowledge / Experience:

• Minimum of 1 year as B-Class Fitter at Austal or 2 years in a related industry.
• Advanced working knowledge of engineering drawings and sketches.
• Pass approved A-Class Fitter Test.

Compensation: $39.67 per hour
