Quality Inspector

Position Summary: Austal USA in Mobile, AL is seeking a Quality Inspector II. The role involves performing in-process quality assessments of vessel construction, conducting compliance audits, and utilizing non-destructive testing (NDT) methods to ensure that shipboard or industrial piping systems are leak-free, structurally sound, and ready for final QA inspection.

Key Responsibilities:

• Conduct in-process quality assessments utilizing NDT inspection methods like VT, PT, and MT.
• Consult with Class Surveyors/Customers during external inspections.
• Provide guidance for workmanship corrections required.
• Document, accept, or reject workmanship based on contract acceptance criteria.
• Mentor and provide on-the-job training (OJT) for NDT certification of other Inspectors.
• Implement and maintain vessel-specific inspection plans and requirements.
• Audit the Quality Management System in accordance with ISO 9001:2015.
• Support domestic travel to address company needs.

Qualifications:

• High school diploma/GED.
• One year's experience as a Quality Inspector I at Austal USA, or three total years NDT Level II experience with VT, PT, and MT in a related field, or three years as a VT Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) for external candidates.
• Level II certification in VT, PT, and MT methods required.
• Other NDT experience is a plus and will be considered equivalent for preferred applicants.
