Position Summary: Austal USA in San Diego, CA is seeking a Naval Architect I - SDCA. This entry-level role is suitable for a professional with 0 to 3 years of related engineering experience. The Naval Architect will be responsible for design calculations and drawing development related to the construction, maintenance, and repair of maritime vessels and systems. A successful candidate will ensure compliance with Austal’s standards and policies, exemplify good communication skills, and demonstrate proficiency with AutoCAD and MS Office products.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct design calculations and drafting for maritime vessel construction and repair.
  • Adhere to company guidelines, procedures, and policies.
  • Maintain written and oral communication with various teams and clients.

Qualifications:

  • 0 to 3 years of relevant engineering experience.
  • Proficient with AutoCAD and MS Office.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Naval Architecture or related field.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with steel and aluminum ship construction or knowledge of modular construction methods.
  • Knowledge of ship and propulsion systems, maritime regulatory authorities, and FEA methods.
