Crane Operator

Position Summary: Austal USA in San Diego, CA is seeking a Crane Operator - SDCA to join their team. The Crane Operator is responsible for operating various lifting devices to move heavy loads safely and efficiently. This position requires a minimum of 3 years of experience as an overhead crane operator in a shipyard or similar industry, with knowledge of load charts and the ability to follow hand signals.

Key Responsibilities:

• Conduct daily pre-operational inspections of machinery, including cranes, SPMTs, and forklifts.
• Select, attach, and lift proper rigging gear for efficient and safe crane operation.
• Mentor less experienced craftsmen in practical training.
• May be tasked with additional responsibilities outside the normal craft requirements.
• Comply with all safety and environmental rules and regulations while performing daily tasks.

Qualifications:

• Minimum of 3 years as an overhead crane operator in a shipyard environment or similar industry.
• Skilled in operating vertical lift and telescopic boom forklifts.
• Must meet all physical requirements specified by ASME B30.2.
• Thorough knowledge of equipment used in crane/rigging operations.
• Able to interpret and utilize load charts and hand signals.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Crane operation certification.
• Bull rigging experience.
• Familiarity with load/tension testing processes.
• Experience in programming, configuration, and operation of SPMTs.
