Position Summary: Austal USA, a leader in innovative naval ship design and construction based in Mobile, AL, is seeking an experienced Electrical Engineering Manager. The role involves overseeing departmental goals for specific projects as directed by senior management, managing a team of engineers and draftspersons, and ensuring the technical adequacy of drawings and calculations. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 7 years of design and/or construction experience, superior communication skills, and an in-depth understanding of ship and propulsion systems, along with regulatory maritime authority knowledge.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee departmental goals for specific projects following the guidance of the Program Engineer and Senior Department Manager.
- Prepare and manage design calculations and drawing development to support program goals.
- Check calculations and progress all department work efficiently.
- Manage and direct the work of Engineers, Designers, and Draftspersons.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent, or a minimum of 10 years of equivalent marine design experience.
- Thorough knowledge of ship systems, power distribution, lighting, automation, control, and communication systems.
- Strong working knowledge of IEEE and NEC.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with high-speed aluminum vessels, large modular construction, US Navy vessel design, and construction.
- Understanding of shock design is favored.
Tools:
- Proficient use of MS Office and AutoCAD.
