Position Summary: Austal USA in Mobile, AL, is seeking a highly proficient A Class Fitout Tradesman (Joiner) to undertake various installation and fabrication tasks associated with shipbuilding. The role requires executing duties from layout to installation of joiner items, insulating decks, and running metal with minimal supervision. The ideal candidate will possess an extensive knowledge of blueprints and construction information and have at least three years of marine experience or five years in a similar construction trade.
Key Responsibilities:
- Layout joiner items including bulkheads, doors, ceilings, and shelving, and fabricate them from drawings with minimal supervision.
- Install joiner items such as bulkheads, doors, ceilings, shelving, and consoles with minimal supervision.
- Perform insulation of deckheads, side shells, beams, and ducts.
- Operate CNC Shear, CNC Break, and other machinery and tools related to the job.
- Lay out hangers, penos, ducts, etc., and understand interior painting principles.
Qualifications:
- Three years of marine experience or five years of experience in the construction industry.
- Knowledge of practices, methods, materials, and equipment used in cabinet making, carpentry, industrial insulation, and HVAC.
- Basic mechanical skills and trade mathematics.
- Ability to read mechanical drawings and blueprints.
Tools:
- Proficiency with tools such as table saws, drill presses, and various hand tools.
- Knowledge of proper handling and usage of these tools.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to perform physical tasks such as bending, squatting, and climbing.
- Must be able to lift/push/pull weights ranging from 50 to 75 lbs occasionally and up to 20 lbs frequently.
Work Environment:
- Exposure to varied conditions such as humid environments, moving mechanical parts, heights, and extreme temperatures.
