Job Description

Position Summary:
The Mechanical Test & Trials Worker at Bollinger Shipyard in Pascagoula, MS, is responsible for conducting performance, safety, and quality testing on mechanical systems, components, and materials aboard vessels. This role involves troubleshooting, commissioning, operating, and maintaining various marine mechanical systems, including propulsion and auxiliary equipment, while ensuring adherence to company and industry standards. The worker plays a critical role during sea trials, data analysis, and test documentation to support vessel performance and safety.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Troubleshoot, commission, and operate marine diesel power and gas turbine plants, along with auxiliary equipment.

  • Set up and operate automatic controls, air conditioning, refrigeration plants, and other auxiliary naval systems.

  • Align and configure systems; interpret pressure, temperature, and flow data.

  • Conduct flushing, commissioning, operational, and demonstration test procedures; provide feedback for improvements.

  • Perform lock out/tag out (LOTO) of equipment per company policies.

  • Maintain inventory and control of testing equipment.

  • Calibrate and install shipboard instrumentation such as temperature and pressure gauges and switches.

  • Participate in sea trials, conduct underway testing, stand watch, and coordinate with other test stations.

  • Perform work in confined or enclosed spaces and at elevations exceeding 5 feet.

  • Use and wear a respirator when required.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 4 years of experience in propulsion, auxiliary, fuel, or damage control systems preferred.

  • Extensive knowledge of shipbuilding processes, mechanical systems, industry regulations, and testing standards.

  • Proficiency in interpreting technical drawings and specifications.

  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

  • Strong communication skills for interaction with customers, management, and personnel across departments.

  • Demonstrated troubleshooting and problem-solving skills for mechanical systems and test setups.

  • Experience operating and maintaining mechanical testing equipment, ensuring calibration and proper function.

Work Environment and Physical Requirements:

  • Work performed in confined or enclosed spaces.

  • Climbing and working at elevations exceeding 5 feet.

  • Use of respirators as required.

  • Adherence to safety, environmental, and quality standards.

  • Ability to work overtime and maintain punctual attendance.
