Position Summary:
The Joiner C position at Bollinger Shipyard in Pascagoula, MS, involves fabricating, assembling, installing, and repairing furnishings in ships or boats following blueprints. Utilizing hand tools, power tools, and measuring instruments, the role requires precise craftsmanship in woodworking and related repairs to ensure high-quality ship interiors and structural components.

Key Responsibilities:

• Read blueprints to determine dimensions of furnishings in ships or boats.

• Shape and laminate wood using steam chambers, clamps, glue, and jigs.

• Assemble and install hardware, gaskets, floors, furnishings, or insulation using adhesives and tools.

• Repair structural woodwork and replace defective parts using hand and power tools.

• Cut wood or glass to specified dimensions.

• Construct floors, doors, and partitions using woodworking machines and tools.

• Shape irregular parts and trim excess material to ensure proper fit.

• Transfer measurements onto plywood using measuring instruments and marking devices.

• Grease gears and moving parts of ship machinery.

Qualifications:

• Knowledge of materials, methods, and appropriate tools for constructing objects and structures.

• Ability to organize and classify multiple pieces of information.

• Mathematical skills to solve problems and meet specifications during installation and repair.

• Coordination skills for precise manipulation and assembly of parts.

• High school diploma or GED.

• Two or more years’ experience in joiner/carpenter and HVAC work.

• Knowledge of fabrication using sheet metal or equivalent experience and training.

Work Environment and Physical Requirements:

• Work involves manual labor with hand and power tools on ship interiors.

• Physical coordination and ability to manipulate materials accurately.

• Exposure to workshop and shipyard conditions.

Reporting:
Reports to designated supervisory personnel.
