Position Summary:
Bollinger Shipyard in Pascagoula, MS is seeking a Heat Straightener responsible for preparing and ensuring the straightness of structural metal components according to blueprint specifications. This full-time, non-executive role requires the use of hand tools and heat shrinking equipment to shape and straighten metal workpieces, contributing to the precision and quality of shipbuilding operations. The Heat Straightener will report directly to the Foreman.
Key Responsibilities:
Locate and mark frames and longitudinal positions
Shape steel using tack welding clips and brackets
Bend, flange, and shape plates, beams, and other heavy metal parts using a heat shrinking torch and water wand
Line and spot heat deck panels as needed
Straighten doors and bulkheads using hand tools
Roll workpieces on flat surfaces or rotate them between centers to detect irregularities visually or with Bridge Cam and Gap gauges
Measure straightened workpieces for conformance using straightedges, micrometers, and calipers
Qualifications:
Knowledge of blueprints and drawings
Ability to operate a shrinking torch and water wand
Ability to straighten decks, bulkheads, doors, and tee beams
Knowledge of metal properties
High school diploma or equivalent required
Prior experience as a Shipfitter and/or Heat Straightener preferred
Previous shipbuilding industry experience or equivalent combination of experience and training
Work Environment and Physical Requirements:
Handling heavy metal components
Use of hand tools and heat equipment
Visual inspection and physical manipulation of metal parts

Reports directly to Foreman
