Position Summary:
Great Lakes Dredge & Dock Co is seeking a full-time Dredge Electrician to support operations aboard its vessels near Port Isabel, TX. This role is responsible for the repair, troubleshooting, and maintenance of all electrical systems on the dredge, working under the supervision of the Chief Engineer. The Dredge Electrician will conduct routine and preventive maintenance, manage inventory of spare parts and consumables, and ensure minimal equipment downtime. This position requires strong electrical expertise, particularly in marine machinery and automated systems, and a commitment to safety and operational excellence in a demanding marine environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Perform resistance, megger, voltage, and current tests on all electrical equipment
Troubleshoot issues related to high-voltage switchboards, MCCs, and motor controls
Conduct preventative and general maintenance of all onboard electrical systems
Maintain and recommend inventory of spare parts and consumables
Submit daily and weekly reports to the Chief Engineer and Electrical Superintendent
Complete administrative tasks including work orders, reports, and service requisitions
Attend onboard and off-site vessel-related training as required
Qualifications:
High School Diploma or equivalent
Valid TWIC card
Valid Driver’s License and reliable transportation
Minimum 4 years of experience with marine machinery and electrical systems
Ability to understand automated engine room monitoring systems
Must be able to lift, carry, pull, or push items weighing up to 50 lbs
Work Environment and Physical Requirements:
Work aboard dredging vessels in a marine environment
Physically demanding role, including lifting up to 50 lbs
Exposure to high-voltage equipment and confined spaces
Overtime and varied shifts may be required
Reporting:
Reports to Chief Engineer; in their absence, to Assistant Engineer or Maintenance Superintendent
