Position Summary:
Great Lakes Dredge & Dock Co is currently seeking full-time Deckhands to support hydraulic dredge and marine operations near Port Isabel, TX and Sulphur, LA. Deckhands are vital members of the deck crew, responsible for assisting with a variety of operational and maintenance tasks aboard dredges and support boats. Core duties include line handling during docking and undocking, securing mooring lines, maintaining deck equipment, and assisting with anchor handling and dredge-related repairs. The role involves physical labor, working with industrial power tools, and supporting welding and mechanical teams, all while maintaining strict adherence to safety protocols in challenging marine environments.
Key Responsibilities:
Assist with docking, undocking, and line handling operations
Secure mooring lines to vessels
Perform routine deck maintenance including cleaning, chipping, scraping, and painting
Operate industrial power tools and small discharge pumps (3” to 6”)
Support deck and equipment repairs and maintenance
Handle, hook up, and secure dredge anchors
Monitor and assist with maintenance of wire cables, winches, pulleys, and mooring fixtures
Change and grease cables and sheaves
Clear obstructions from cutterhead and dredge pump using tools including acetylene torch
Perform pontoon line maintenance including greasing ball joint connections
Assist welders as needed
Lift, carry, pull, or push equipment and supplies weighing up to 75 lbs
Qualifications:
Commitment to safety and adherence to all safety procedures
Ability to perform specialized work aboard dredges and support vessels
Must complete a pre-employment physical, drug screen, and background check
Valid TWIC card required
Work Environment and Physical Requirements:
Work aboard dredges and marine vessels in varying environmental conditions
Use of industrial tools and manual labor
Physically demanding work, including lifting up to 75 lbs
Exposure to marine and industrial equipment and operations
