Job Description
Position Summary: General Dynamics NASSCO in San Diego, CA, is looking for a Welder - Journeyman adept at welding shell plating and fabricating components as per specifications for various vessels and structural assemblies. The role demands an individual with prior experience or training in welding and knowledge of welding metal characteristics. The welder must be competent in working at heights, within confined spaces, across all shifts, and with adherence to safety protocols.
Key Responsibilities:
- Execute welding tasks for the fabrication of vessels, tanks, and structural assemblies based on specifications.
- Use carbon electrodes to cut, shape, and groove metal as required.
- Prepare the welding workplace, which may include cleaning and preheating.
- Examine weld sizes and beads to ensure compliance with specifications.
- Clean the weld area, manage sweepings, and remove scrap material.
- Perform other job duties relevant to welding as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Required experience or training in two gas-shielded FCAW welding processes: 71T-1 and 811N3, in three positions.
- Ability to comprehend written and verbal instructions in English.
- Must be able to hear warning signals and understand safety instructions, regulations, and warnings.
Work Environment and Physical Requirements:
- Frequent lifting of welding equipment, standing, walking, climbing, reaching, pushing, pulling, and manual dexterity.
- Must work in all shipyard areas and aboard ships with exposure to fumes, odors, dust, varying climates, and high noise levels.
- Required to maintain general safety awareness within the working environment.
