Job Description

Position Summary: General Dynamics NASSCO in San Diego, CA is seeking an experienced Electrician to be responsible for installing, repairing, and servicing electrical equipment on ships. This role requires an individual who can work with various electrical services, lay out and handle cables and conduit, and test electrical equipment with diligence and accuracy.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Drill holes, grind metal surfaces, and prepare work areas for electrical servicing.
  • Install welds, hook up equipment, and execute cable and conduit repairs and installations.
  • Test electrical equipment for functionality and safety.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, computer printouts, and Navy standards manuals.
  • Maintain cleanliness and order in the work area by removing scrap and general cleanup.
  • Execute other tasks as assigned relevant to the trade.

Qualifications:

  • Two years of marine electrical experience or four years of related electrical experience is required.
  • Must pass NASSCO's assessment or be in a training program.
  • Proficiency with power and hand tools, reading composite blueprints, and understanding Navy standards manuals.
  • Ability to work at heights, in confined spaces, and available for any assigned shift.

Physical/Mental Involvement:

  • Frequent lifting, carrying, pulling, and pushing of cables and equipment, along with standing, walking, climbing, and moving through confined spaces as necessary.
  • Must maintain general safety awareness and avoid common hazards in the work area.
