Job Description

Position Summary: General Dynamics NASSCO in San Diego, CA, is looking for a Pipefitter to install and maintain piping systems on ships, including steam, heat and power, hydraulic, air pressure, and oil lines. The candidate should be skilled in planning pipe section layouts, operating shop machines, and repairing, packing, and testing valves and installed systems for leaks and compliance with specs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Read and interpret blueprints and specifications to determine the layout and installation of ship piping systems.
  • Set up the work area with the necessary tools and materials in the shop or on board the ship.
  • Execute cutting, bending, welding, and brazing for pipe preparation and connection on the ship.
  • Inspect and tag out piping systems and conduct air and hydrostatic tests.
  • Maintain cleanliness and order in the work area, adhering to safety and quality standards.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent education preferred.
  • Minimum of three years of relevant experience or two years of training at NASSCO, knowledge of marine piping systems, and blueprint reading.
  • Proficiency in silver brazing procedures and familiarity with military specifications.
  • Ability to work heights, confined spaces, and different shifts.
  • Comprehension of written and verbal instructions in English.

Work Environment and Physical Requirements:

  • Frequent lifting up to 50 lbs, climbing ladders, working in confined spaces, and navigating through ship spaces.
  • Exposure to environmental factors such as fumes, dust, varying temperatures, and intense noise levels.
