Engineering Specialist - Electrical Engineering

Position Summary: General Dynamics NASSCO, based in San Diego, CA, seeks an Electrical Engineering Specialist for marine engineering projects focusing on shipboard electrical system design and integration. The Engineer will develop electrical schemes, diagrams, and plans, work on specifications and commissioning, and partner with various teams through the design and construction life cycle, ensuring compliance with maritime codes and standards.

Key Responsibilities:

• Complete electrical engineering tasks independently with minimal supervision.
• Control scope creep when changes occur, providing alternative solutions to minimize impact.
• Identify and apply advanced solutions to complex engineering problems.
• Serve as a technical point of contact discussing engineering positions with external SMEs.
• Facilitate working groups, driving decisions, and determining follow-on actions.
• Advance technical training and mentoring within the department.
• Develop, evaluate, and communicate design configurations in compliance with internal and external requirements.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or Applied Sciences, with a Professional Engineer's License preferred.
• At least ten years of practical experience in engineering design, excluding education; experience in operational, shipyard test, or production roles can be included.
• Qualifying skills include a positive and team-oriented attitude, initiative, commitment, and flexibility with changing assignments and processes.

Physical Demands:

• Ability to work in office and industrial settings, including operating computers and office equipment, navigating shipyards, construction areas, and warehouses.
• Capable of remaining agile and responding quickly to avoid hazards and unexpected obstacles.
• Duties may require ascending and descending stairs and ladders, working in confined spaces, and exposure to industrial environments with hazardous materials and loud noise.
