Electrical Engineer

Position Summary: General Dynamics NASSCO in San Diego, CA is looking for a mid-career Electrical Engineer to join the marine engineering team specializing in shipboard electrical system design and integration. The individual should have experience with maritime power generation and distribution, control systems, and navigation and communication technologies. The role requires creating detailed system diagrams, performing analyses, ensuring compliance with maritime standards, and working with cross-disciplinary teams.

Key Responsibilities:

• Design and integrate shipboard electrical systems, including power generation, distribution, control systems, and communication networks.
• Develop detailed electrical system diagrams and perform system analysis.
• Ensure compliance with maritime standards such as ABS, IEEE, and IEC.
• Collaborate with cross-disciplinary teams to ensure efficient and reliable design delivery.
• Lead small teams and mentor less experienced engineers.
• Participate in working groups and document discussions, decisions, and outcomes.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or Applied Sciences, with a Professional Engineer's License preferred.
• At least four years of practical experience in engineering design, exclusive of education, with experience in operational or shipyard tests, production, or similar fields.
• Proficiency with CAD and electrical simulation tools.
• Positive attitude, initiative, accountability, commitment, and flexibility with changing assignments and processes.

Physical Demands:

• Ability to work in office and industrial settings.
• Proficiency in operating computers, software, and office equipment.
• Capacity to safely traverse the shipyard and navigate through construction areas, aboard ships, and warehouses.
• Able to ascend and descend stairs and ladders, work on scaffolding at heights, and through confined spaces.
