Job Description

Position Summary: General Dynamics NASSCO, located in San Diego, CA, is seeking an entry-level Naval Architect Engineer to assist with ship stability, arrangements, hydrodynamics, structures, and mass properties tasks. This role requires active engagement in design studies, development of drawings, and engineering calculations under the supervision of an Engineering Supervisor. The Naval Architect Engineer will frequently engage with various internal departments and external parties like Regulatory Bodies, providing technical assistance and ensuring compliance with internal and external requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform assigned tasks diligently with supervision and technical oversight.
  • Assist with internal and external customer research and issue interpretation.
  • Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with peers and senior personnel.
  • Contribute to internal working groups and document discussions, decisions, and outcomes.
  • Develop, evaluate, and communicate components' or regions' configuration and characteristics per the discipline's requirements.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree, Professional Engineer’s License, or equivalent in Engineering or Applied Sciences.
  • Positive attitude, initiative, accountability, flexibility, and a team-oriented mindset.
  • Ability to teach known skills to other employees and reference required rules, regulations, and standards.

Physical Demands:

  • Work in both office and industrial settings, which includes working on computers and standard office equipment.
  • Must be able to access, navigate, and traverse the shipyard, construction areas, ships, and warehouses.
  • Capable of moving quickly to avoid hazards and respond to unexpected obstacles with alertness and compliance with safety requirements.
  • Climbing stairs and ladders, working on scaffolding at heights, and operating in confined spaces may be required.
