Position Summary: General Dynamics NASSCO in San Diego, CA is offering a Winter engineering internship program for individuals currently enrolled in a full-time educational program related to naval architecture, marine engineering, constructi
on management, or related fields. Interns will have the opportunity to work within various engineering departments, assisting with projects ranging from initial vessel design to final outfitting. This position requires the candidate to be on-site and accommodates learning in both office and manufacturing environments.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist naval architects and marine engineers with current projects.
- Create and modify CAD drawings, perform research, and conduct stability and structural calculations.
- Support shipboard inspections and testing alongside senior staff.
- Regularly report on the status of assigned projects to department managers or supervisors.
Qualifications:
- Currently enrolled full-time in an educational program related to ship design, shipbuilding, or manufacturing processes.
- Interest or experience in the above fields is beneficial.
- Proficiency with personal computer systems, CAD/CAE, word processing, and spreadsheets.
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
- High degree of personal flexibility and adaptability.
Work Environment and Physical Requirements:
- Work involves office settings and industrial shipyard locations.
- Ability to stay stationary for prolonged periods, operate various office equipment, and transverse uneven surfaces.
- Must navigate confined spaces, scaffolding, and work at heights.
- Exposure to industrial areas with hazardous materials, loud noise, and various weather conditions.
