Job Description

Position Summary: General Dynamics NASSCO in San Diego, CA is seeking an experienced Electrical Technician. This role involves installing, commissioning, testing, and repairing electrical equipment adhering to industry and company standards. The candidate will handle a variety of electrical systems such as motors and controllers, generators, switchboards, PLCs, and HVAC controls. The ideal candidate possesses in-depth knowledge of electrical theory, marine wiring practices, and can interpret blueprints and schematic diagrams competently.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Install, inspect, test, and repair various types of electrical equipment and systems onboard ships.
  • Route and run cables, mount equipment, and make precise electrical connections.
  • Perform commissioning and testing functions, including cold insulation checks and operational testing.
  • Read blueprints, schematic diagrams, and use electrical test equipment along with hand and power tools for installation and repair tasks.
  • Other relevant tasks associated with the electrical trade.

Qualifications:

  • Experience in troubleshooting, repairing, and installing electrical equipment.
  • Knowledge of electrical theory, marine wiring practices, and the ability to read cable and wire color codes accurately.
  • Proficient in reading blueprints and schematic diagrams.
  • Skill in using electrical test equipment, hand tools, and power tools effectively.
  • Must be able to work at heights, in confined spaces, and available for any shift as required.

Work Environment and Physical Requirements:

  • Frequent lifting and carrying of up to 50 lbs. Includes standing, walking, climbing ladders, reaching, pushing, pulling, kneeling, bending, and manual dexterity.
  • Must have good color vision, eye/hand/foot coordination, and general safety awareness.
  • Exposure to fumes, dust, gases, varying temperatures, low ventilation, and high levels of noise.
