Position Summary: General Dynamics NASSCO in Norfolk, VA is seeking an Area Manager II with CVN experience for our Programs department. In this proficient role, the individual is responsible for managing CMAV-type availability from the planning phase through to successful delivery back to the customer. As a representative of the company and a point of contact with our customers, the Area Manager II coordinates multiple subcontractors and organic trade activities to meet schedule objectives. The position demands in-depth knowledge of both Combatant and Non-Combatant vessels and requires the candidate to manage technical personnel and complex activities within ship repair availabilities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage work associated with CMAV type availability, providing status on schedule and cost impacts.
  • Coordinate multiple subcontractors and organic trade activities to meet schedule objectives.
  • Serve as a company representative and primary point of contact for assigned work items.
  • Contribute to the process and guidelines supporting the project management system.
  • Support the Planning Department in project proposals, job estimates, and scheduling.
  • Lead cross-functional Project Team meetings with company personnel, subcontractors, customers, and U.S. Navy representatives.
  • Develop detailed plans for complex work items and manage changes in work scope.
  • Identify, assess, and resolve risks or issues affecting availability completion.
  • Lead subcontractors and organic trade personnel.

Qualifications:

  • BA/BS in Engineering, Computer Science, Science, or related field; or AA/AS with 2 years of experience; or 6 years of directly related experience.
  • Minimum of 2 years of high-performance as a NASSCO Area Manager I or 4 years of equivalent external experience.
  • Preferred: 6 years of ship repair experience and familiarity with managing multiple CMAVs.
  • Skilled in Microsoft Office Suite, Project, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Valid driver's license with reliable, insurable transportation.
  • U.S. citizenship and eligibility for security clearance.

Work Environment and Physical Requirements:

  • Frequent walking, lifting, pulling, and the ability to go on vessels and access all facility areas.
  • Ability to sit, use hands, handle objects, and communicate effectively.
  • Must wear personal protective equipment, including a respirator.
  • Exposure to moderate noise levels, and ability to work in a naval-ship-work-environment.

Reporting: Reports to the Program Manager or their designee.

Experience Required: 2+ years as a NASSCO Area Manager I or 4+ years of external equivalent experience, with a preferred minimum of 6 years of ship repair experience in a related role.

Additional Instructions: Applicants must be willing to travel and manage ship repair availabilities in remote locations for extended periods. Regular and reliable attendance on-site is essential. Must be able to engage physically in all areas of the ship repair facility and potentially aboard marine vessels, drydocks, climb ladders, work in confined spaces, and travel as required by management.
