Position Summary:
Eastern Shipbuilding is looking for a TIG Pipe Welder 1/C who is skilled in the planning, layout, welding, installation, testing, and repair of various types of pipes and tubular products following technical plans, specifications, and industry standards. The role requires compliance with company, federal, state, local safety, and environmental regulations and the flexibility for overtime, weekends, and holiday work.
Key Responsibilities:
- Review and interpret blueprints, layouts, and diagrams to prepare for welding tasks.
- Weld using TIG and other welding methods to the specified standards on various materials including steel, stainless, and aluminum.
- Install and replace damaged pipes, fabricate and install metal fittings, valves, and other equipment.
- Use hand and power tools for accurate measurement and assembly of products.
- Test installed piping systems and ensure compatibility with plans and specifications.
- Work independently with minimal supervision and provide guidance to subordinates.
Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent, with 3-5 years of pipe welding experience preferred.
- Proficiency in reading, comprehending, and following blueprints and plans.
- X-ray pipe welding experience with capability to weld in all positions and mirror weld.
- Knowledge of welding symbols, ship terminology, OSHA regulations, and ability to pass a SMAW 6G Pipe Test for ABS certification.
Physical Demands:
- Active work requiring communication, standing, walking, bending, frequent lifting, or movement of up to 50 pounds.
- Medically qualified to wear required personal protective equipment and to work in confined spaces and at heights.
Work Environment:
- Employee may be exposed to the risk of electrical shock, moving mechanical parts, vibration, fumes, and other hazards in a shipyard environment.
- Adherence to rigorous safety procedures and the use of personal safety equipment is mandatory.
