Position Summary:
Eastern Shipbuilding is seeking a Pipefitter 2/C, tasked with assisting in the assembly, installation, and testing of various piping systems according to specified plans, codes, and industry standards. This full-time position includes work on marine vessels and complements other crafts as directed, requiring flexibility in hours, including overtime, weekends, and holidays.
Key Responsibilities:
- Select and prepare the appropriate pipes, fittings, and valves as per project requirements.
- Assist in measuring and marking pipes for cutting and threading and assemblage in line with specifications.
- Contribute to the repair or replacement of damaged parts, and the fabrication and installation of metal fittings and support systems.
- Test installed piping systems to ensure they meet the plans and specifications.
- Rig and flag cranes to move piping materials safely, operating with minimal supervision.
- Execute other duties as needed to ensure the successful completion of tasks.
Requirements:
- High school diploma or GED with one to three years of experience in pipefitting/plumbing.
- Knowledge of standard pipe craft formulas, techniques for measuring, fitting, and tack welding steel, and ship terminology.
- Proficiency in reading blueprints, using hand and power tools, performing mathematical calculations, and cutting with a torch.
- Capable of passing an SMAW tack welding test for ABS certification.
Physical Demands:
- Active role that involves communication, standing, bending, and frequent lifting/movement of up to 50 pounds.
- Must be medically qualified to wear all prescriptive personal protective equipment under OSHA standards.
Work Environment:
- Exposed to hazards such as electrical shock, mechanical parts, vibrations, and noise within an industrial shipyard setting.
- Adherence to safety procedures, policies, and equipment use is compulsory.
