Position Summary:
Eastern Shipbuilding is looking for an Electrician 1/C responsible for planning, installing, maintaining, and repairing electrical wiring, equipment, and control systems on marine vessels and within shipyard buildings. Adhering to plans, specifications, codes, and industry standards, this role requires collaboration with other crafts and the ability to perform duties with minimal supervision.
Key Responsibilities:
- Ensure regular attendance at work and the ability to work flexibly, including overtime, weekends, and holidays.
- Comply with company, federal, state, local safety, ethics, and environmental rules while working.
- Install, maintain, and repair electrical wiring and systems onboard vessels and at shipyard facilities.
- Inspect systems and parts for faults and perform necessary repairs or adjustments.
- Troubleshoot equipment and circuits, perform maintenance, and attend to electrical motor, alarm, and lighting system repairs.
- Offer guidance on generator maintenance, switchboard and controller circuit breakers, and power generation and distribution systems.
- Document actions and comply with safety procedures and policies.
Requirements:
- High school diploma or GED equivalent, with three to five years of experience in electrical and electromechanical systems maintenance, preferably on marine electrical systems.
- Proficiency in understanding written and verbal instructions, reading blueprints and schematics, and recognizing and resolving electrical issues.
- Knowledge of hand and power tool operation and safety, basic mathematical skills, including metric measurements.
Physical Demands:
- Frequent communication, standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, and climbing.
- Frequent lifting or moving of up to 50 pounds and must meet physical qualifications for personal protective equipment use.
Work Environment:
- Exposure to electrical shock risks and other industrial hazards in a heavy shipyard setting.
- Strict adherence to rigorous safety procedures and the use of PPE.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- May indirectly supervise and train subordinates.
