Position Summary:
Eastern Shipbuilding is seeking a Painter/Sandblaster 1/C proficient in operating equipment to apply protective coatings and paints to fabricated structural steel material and other substrates. This role involves working flexible hours, including overtime, weekends, and holidays, and compliance with the company's safety, environmental, and ethical policies.
Key Responsibilities:
- Operate spray painting and sandblasting equipment in preparation for the application of protective coatings.
- Clean, wash, strip, sand, and remove corrosion to prepare items for painting.
- Mask and tape off areas not to be painted and select appropriate paint or mix paints to match specifications.
- Utilize spray guns and other equipment and adjust controls to regulate pressure and coverage.
- Maintain and disassemble painting and sandblasting equipment, keeping the workspace tidy.
Requirements:
- High school diploma or GED, with 3-5 years of marine painting/sandblasting experience.
- Knowledge of ship terminology, safety protocols, OSHA regulations, and transportation/storage of hazardous materials.
- Proficiency in the use and care of spray guns, brushes, rollers, and sandblasting equipment.
Physical Demands:
- Standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, and climbing throughout the workday.
- Frequently lift/move up to 50 pounds and be medically qualified to wear all required personal protective equipment.
Work Environment:
- Very active role, potentially exposed to electrical shock, moving parts, fumes, airborne particles, toxic chemicals, and loud noise.
- Compliance with rigorous safety, policies, and equipment use is mandatory.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- The position may indirectly supervise and train subordinates.
