Position Summary:
Eastern Shipbuilding is seeking an experienced Pipefitter 1/C to assemble, install, and test piping systems in accordance with project specifications, plans, codes, and industry standards. This position involves cooperation with other crafts and demands adaptability to flex-hours, including overtime, weekends, and holidays.
Key Responsibilities:
- Select appropriate pipe, fittings, and valves based on project requirements.
- Measure, mark, cut, and thread pipes; assemble tubes and fittings to align with specifications.
- Perform bending of pipes as per project requirements.
- Install high-pressure steel pipes and fittings, ensuring operational verification.
- Repair and replace damaged pipes; fabricate and install metal fittings and support structures.
- Test installed piping systems and complete system hook-ups for commissioning.
- Operate with minimal supervision and carry out other assigned duties.
Requirements:
- High school diploma or GED, with three to five years of relevant pipefitting/plumbing experience.
- Proficiency in reading and understanding blueprints, using hand and power tools, and applying common mathematical calculations.
- Requires the ability to pass a SMAW Tack welding test for ABS certification.
- Familiarity with welding practices, ship terminology, and OSHA standards.
Physical Requirements:
- Active role requiring communication, standing, walking, bending, and frequent lifting of up to 50 pounds.
- Must be medically qualified to use all necessary personal protective equipment as per OSHA.
- Ability to work at heights and in confined spaces under varying temperatures is required.
Work Environment:
- Heavy industrial shipyard environment with potential exposure to risks such as electrical shock and airborne particles.
- Must adhere strictly to safety procedures and policies.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- May indirectly supervise and/or train subordinates as needed.
