Position Summary:
Eastern Shipbuilding Group, Inc. is actively seeking a QA Manager to oversee the activities of the Quality Assurance Department. The QA Manager has the overall responsibility for the Quality Management System (QMS), ensuring its effective establishment, implementation, and maintenance. This role requires a seasoned professional with substantial experience in ship construction and a strong background in quality assurance.
Key Responsibilities:
- Report on QMS performance and areas in need of improvement to top management.
- Ensure QMS conforms to customer requirements and promotes awareness of these requirements across the organization.
- Oversee inspection teams, ensuring productivity and technical integrity.
- Coordinate with production managers and customer inspection teams to ensure quality standards are met.
- Provide technical assistance and expertise to QA Inspectors.
- Investigate and address deficiencies related to customer requirements and company standards.
- Maintain welder performance qualification records and develop welding procedures specifications.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Bachelor's degree in marine engineering, Quality Assurance, or a related field. Master's degree preferred.
- Eight to ten years of experience in ship construction, with supervisory experience also desired.
- Proficiency in intermediate-level Microsoft Office applications.
- Comprehensive understanding of technical specifications, shipbuilding terminology, OSHA standards, and classification rules.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- Directly or indirectly responsible for supervising employees within the QA department, including hiring, training, and managing work.
Requirements:
- Skilled in reading and interpreting technical documents such as drawings and schematics.
- Must exhibit strong interpersonal skills, attention to detail, and the ability to maintain confidentiality.
Physical Demands:
- Requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling throughout the workday.
- Frequently lifts/moves up to 50 pounds, and must be qualified to wear personal protective equipment.
Work Environment:
- Exposure to electrical shock, mechanical parts, vibration, loud noise, and other industrial hazards.
- Rigorous compliance with safety procedures and policies is mandatory.
