Carpenter 3/C

Position Summary: Eastern Shipbuilding Group, Inc. is seeking a Carpenter 3/C who is proficient at performing a variety of carpentry tasks related to wood structures and furnishings for marine vessels. This role calls for individuals experienced with woodworking machines and tools who can work flexible hours, including overtime, weekends, and holidays.

Key Responsibilities:

• Assist in the construction and installation of different wood structures like floors, doors, partitions, ladders, and handrails within marine vessels.
• Install sound dampening materials, assist with vessel blocking, and alignment of materials as per specifications.
• Under supervision, measure, cut, and determine the conformance of materials to specifications.
• May aid with rigging and flagging cranes using hand signals for the safe movement of materials.
• Ensure daily work assignments are completed correctly.

Qualifications and Skills:

• High school diploma or GED with at least six months of carpentry experience preferred.
• Familiarity with the tools and methods used in marine vessel construction and repairs.
• Ability to read and comprehend instructions, and skills necessary to carry out various carpentry tasks.
• Knowledge of ship terminology, OSHA regulations, and safe operation of hand and power tools.

Physical Requirements:

• Engage in active work requiring communication, standing, bending, and the ability to frequently lift/move up to 50 pounds.
• Must be medically fit to wear all required personal protective equipment as mandated by OSHA standards.

Work Environment:

• Position may demand working in an industrial environment exposed to risks like electrical shock, mechanical parts, and extreme temperatures.
• Compliance with strict safety procedures and policies is mandatory for this full-time role.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

• The role does not have direct supervisory responsibilities but may indirectly supervise or train subordinates.
