Estimator III

Job Description

Position Summary:
Eastern Shipbuilding Group, Inc. is seeking an experienced Estimator III who will be responsible for developing comprehensive bids for new construction, repair, and conversion projects. Candidates with a background in the shipbuilding industry, including work with government and commercial entities, are sought after for this crucial role within the Estimating Department.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Review and analyze specifications and detailed drawings to develop labor, material, and subcontractor price estimates.
  • Evaluate subcontractor quotes for completeness and best alternatives, considering aspects like commissioning and freight.
  • Identify critical path and long lead items, as well as ambiguities or inconsistencies in specifications that may affect cost.
  • Apply judgment and decision-making in line with company guidelines and goals.
  • Collaborate independently within a team, effectively communicate with stakeholders, and manage multiple concurrent estimates.
  • Utilize Microsoft Office suite, particularly Excel, to create detailed labor hour estimates and other relevant aspects of bid development.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent educational background in a related field with 5-10 years of shipbuilding experience in quantity takeoff and estimating.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, Project, and AutoCAD.
  • Ability to interpret technical procedures, regulations, and apply mathematical concepts such as algebra and geometry to practical situations.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • This position does not include supervisory responsibilities.

Requirements:

  • Experience in a production environment and advanced Microsoft Office skills are preferred.
  • Strong communication skills, ability to work collaboratively, and a high level of attention to detail are necessary.

Physical Demands:

  • This job operates in a professional office environment and requires regular communication, standing, walking, and use of standard office equipment.
  • Must have specific vision abilities including close, distance, color, and peripheral vision, as well as depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment:

  • Low to moderate noise level akin to an office setting.
  • Exposure to the risk of electrical shock is present.
