Position Summary:
Eastern Shipbuilding is hiring for the role of Safety Specialist 2/C, focused on conducting workplace inspections, enforcing Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) use, and ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local safety regulations. Candidates with a strong foundational knowledge of safety practices, medical or fire prevention experience, and competency in Microsoft Office are encouraged to apply.
Key Responsibilities:
- Inspect workplace areas regularly to ensure compliance with safety standards.
- Assist in enforcing PPE and safety equipment usage among personnel.
- Utilize safety experience to identify potential hazards and propose corrective actions.
- Comfortably operate within Microsoft Office Suite, including Word and Excel.
- Support safety training initiatives, handle documentation, and present information to staff as needed.
- Multilingual abilities are a plus for this role to communicate effectively with a diverse workforce.
Qualifications and Skills:
- High school diploma or GED with at least one year of safety experience in a manufacturing or construction environment.
- Shipyard Competent Person Certification and knowledge of OSHA regulations are required.
- Proficiency in basic Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Effective communication skills and the ability to interpret safety rules and company policies.
Physical Requirements:
- Frequent standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, and climbing.
- Ability to frequently lift and move up to 50 pounds and operate in confined spaces or at significant heights.
- Must be medically qualified to wear all necessary PPE as mandated by OSHA standards.
Work Environment:
- The full-time position requiring regular attendance and the potential for flexible hours, including overtime, weekends, and holidays.
- Exposure to various hazards within a heavy industrial shipyard environment, making strict adherence to safety regulations vital.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- The Safety Specialist 2/C position does not hold supervisory responsibilities.
