Job Description
Position Summary:
Eastern Shipbuilding is looking for a Shipfitter 1/C with substantial experience in metal structural part fabrication within the shipbuilding industry. The successful candidate will lay out, fabricate, and brace structural parts like plates, bulkheads, and frames within the hull of ships for riveting or welding, as well as prepare molds and templates for nonstandard part fabrication.
Key Responsibilities:
- Layout and position parts on metal, utilizing blueprints or templates and scribing tools to mark reference lines.
- Align components using various tools and methods to ensure precise assembly within the ships' hulls.
- Prepare molds and templates for the creation of specialty parts as specified.
- Install structural accessories, members, and gaskets, and actively participate in setting up for welding or riveting.
- Execute daily work assignments and flag cranes, pull angle iron as required.
- Tack weld clips and brackets, ensuring accountability for the completion of assigned work.
Qualifications and Skills:
- High school diploma or GED equivalent, with 3-5 years of shipfitting experience preferred.
- Proficient use of tools to cut, burn, and tack weld with a thorough understanding of ship terminology and safety standards.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and perform complex mathematical calculations.
Physical Requirements:
- Frequent communication, standing, walking, bending, and ability to lift/move up to 50 pounds required.
- Medically qualified to wear all required personal safety equipment per OSHA.
Work Environment:
- Active role in a heavy industrial shipyard setting with potential exposure to electrical shock, moving mechanical parts, and other related hazards.
- Full-time position requiring commitment to rigorous safety procedures and policies.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- May supervise and train subordinates indirectly.
