Shipfitter 2/C

Position Summary: Eastern Shipbuilding is looking for a Shipfitter 2/C to lay out and fabricate metal structural parts for the construction of ships within its shipyard in Panama City, FL. This role requires proficiency in various shipfitting tasks, including alignment, template preparation, welding, and adherence to safety and environmental guidelines.

Key Responsibilities:

• Assist in the alignment of metal structural parts within the hull of ships.
• Prepare molds and templates for the fabrication of nonstandard parts according to specifications.
• Install structural accessories such as doors, hatches, brackets, and clips.
• Perform tack welding of clips and brackets in preparation for permanent welding.
• Lay out parts, cut with torch or plasma, and rig lifts as required.
• Work under minimal supervision and complete assigned duties effectively.

Qualifications and Skills:

• High school diploma or GED equivalent with one to three years of shipfitting experience.
• Knowledge of materials, methods, tools, and standards for constructing marine vessels.
• Ability to read and comprehend written, oral, or diagram instructions, and interpret blueprints.
• Proficiency in using hand and power tools, reading tape measures, and cutting/burning with torches or plasma cutters.
• Familiarity with ship terminology, safety protocols, and OSHA regulations.

Physical Requirements:

• Must be able to communicate, stand, walk, bend, climb, and frequently lift/move up to 50 pounds throughout the workday.
• Must be medically qualified to wear personal protective equipment as mandated by OSHA.
• Ability to work above ground at heights and in confined spaces withstanding extreme temperatures.

Work Environment:

• The role requires regular attendance and the flexibility to work overtime, weekends, and holidays as needed.
• Exposure to electrical shock, moving parts, fumes, and a loud shipyard environment.
• Compliance with rigorous safety procedures and policies is mandatory.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

• May indirectly supervise and assist in training subordinates.
