Job Description

Position Summary:
Eastern Shipbuilding is seeking an experienced Welder 1/C to execute various welding tasks, fit components, and produce high-quality welds according to specifications. This role involves collaborating with other team members following company and industry standards and ensuring the safety and structural integrity of formed structures.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Monitor working environments for compliance with quality, safety, environmental, and health regulations.
  • Weld components in various positions, ensuring conformance to prescribed specifications and industry standards.
  • Examine welds, ensuring proper bead size and meeting safety and quality guidelines.
  • Inspect and measure work pieces using precision instruments to ensure correct specifications.
  • Set up and operate welding equipment for different processes, including arc and gas-shielded arc welding.
  • Maintain and document welding activities, adjust for precision, and work under minimal supervision.
  • Perform duties such as carbon air arc cutting with butt seams and preparation of seams after gouging.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • High school diploma or GED with 1-3 years of experience as a flux core arc welder, preferred.
  • Working knowledge of materials, methods, and fitting and welding techniques across various materials.
  • Familiarity with ship terminology, welding symbols, safety regulations, OSHA, and ABS standards.
  • Capability to read and comprehend diagrams, blueprints, and follow instructions.
  • Proficient in operating hand and power tools, with the ability to effectively communicate with team members.

Physical Requirements:

  • Regularly required to communicate, stand, walk, bend, kneel, crouch, and frequently lift/move up to 50 pounds.
  • Must be medically qualified to use personal protective equipment as mandated by OSHA standards.

Work Environment:

  • Full-time role that requires standing and walking throughout the workday.
  • Work environment includes potential exposure to electrical shocks, moving mechanical parts, and other shipyard hazards.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • May indirectly supervise and mentor subordinates within the welding team.
