Shipfitter 1/C

Position Summary:
Eastern Shipbuilding is seeking a Shipfitter 1/C capable of laying out and fabricating metal structural parts like plates, bulkheads, and frames, as well as preparing molds and templates for nonstandard parts in ship construction. This vital role demands precision, thorough knowledge of shipfitting processes, and adherence to safety protocols.

Key Responsibilities:

• Review blueprints and plan the layout and positioning of parts within a ship's hull.
• Mark reference lines and align parts using a variety of hand tools and equipment.
• Install packing, gaskets, liners, and structural accessories in compliance with specifications.
• Tack weld clips and brackets in place and fulfill other welding tasks as necessary.
• Flag cranes, pull angle iron, and perform additional duties associated with ship construction.
• Contribute to daily assignments and ensure satisfactory completion of shipfitting tasks.

Qualifications and Skills:

• High school diploma or GED equivalent with 3-5 years of shipfitting experience.
• Proficiency in torch or plasma cutting, tack welding with various rods, and familiarity with ship terminology and OSHA regulations.
• Ability to read and comprehend written, oral, or diagram forms, and interpret blueprints.
• Skilled in using hand and power tools, reading tape measures, and applying mathematical operations.

Physical Requirements:

• Requires communication, standing, walking, bending, and frequently lifting and moving up to 50 pounds.
• Ability to work in various positions and conditions, including at heights, within confined spaces, and sometimes under extreme temperatures.

Work Environment:

• Full-time position within a shipyard environment, which involves exposure to electrical risks, mechanical parts, vibration, fumes, airborne particles, toxic substances, and loud noise.
• The role requires adherence to rigorous safety procedures and equipment use.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

• May indirectly supervise and/or train lower-level personnel as needed.
