Job Description

Position Summary:
Eastern Shipbuilding is seeking a Pipe Welder 2/C to assist in the welding, installation, and testing of pipe systems according to design plans, specifications, codes, and industry standards. This full-time position requires adherence to company safety, ethical standards, and environmental regulations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the production of high-quality welds with materials including steel, stainless, and aluminum.
  • Review blueprints, layouts, and diagrams in preparation for welding tasks.
  • Aid in installation and ensure the operation of steel pipes and fittings complies with project specifications.
  • Set up and operate welding equipment, performing tasks under supervision.
  • Repair and replace damaged pipes, fabricate metal fittings, secure parts for welding, and conduct tests on installed systems.
  • Use hand and power tools to measure, cut, assemble, and weld various pipe and tubular products.
  • Possess knowledge of different welding processes, interpret weld symbols, and pass relevant welding tests.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • High school diploma or GED with 1-3 years of pipe welding experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of welding symbols, ship terminology, OSHA, and ABS standards.
  • Ability to weld pipes in all positions, including mirror welding.
  • Effective communication and the ability to understand and follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Proficiency in reading blueprints and use of hand and power tools.

Physical Requirements:

  • The role is very active, requiring communication, standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, and climbing throughout the workday.
  • Frequently lift/move up to 50 pounds, and be qualified to wear personal protective equipment as prescribed under OSHA standards.

Work Environment:

  • Exposure to the risk of electrical shock, moving mechanical parts, vibration, fumes, airborne particles, toxic chemicals, and loud noise in a shipyard environment.
  • Expected to comply with strict safety procedures and policies.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • This position does not entail direct supervisory responsibilities.
