Position Summary:
Eastern Shipbuilding is seeking a Millwright Machinist 1/C responsible for installing various ship machinery, planning and fabricating foundations, and performing general machine tool setups and operations. This full-time position requires a detailed understanding of marine systems, machinery operations, and a commitment to safety and environmental standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Install ship propulsion machinery, sea valves, steering gear, anchor handling equipment, pumps, and ventilating equipment.
- Plan projects, fabricate and install machine foundations and frames.
- Operate machine tools to produce parts to specified dimensions and assemble according to required specifications.
- Perform precision measurements, lay out dimensions, and verify alignment and clearances of parts.
- Assemble parts into complete units, connect fuel, cooling, or lubricating lines and secure equipment to the ship's deck.
- Comply with company, federal, state, and local safety, ethics, and environmental rules, regulations, and policies.
- Maintain, clean, lubricate, and perform preventive maintenance on machines and tools as necessary.
Qualifications and Skills:
- High school diploma or GED, with 3+ years of experience in a machine shop or shipyard environment.
- Proficiency in manual machinery, CNC experience desired, and knowledge of SMAW tack welding.
- Strong comprehension and application of precision alignment principles for rotating machinery.
- Ability to read blueprints, schematics, layouts, and precision measuring tools both SAE and Metric.
- Required to pass welding tests for American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) certification.
Physical Requirements:
- Active role requiring standing, walking, bending, kneeling, and the frequent lifting/movement of up to 50 lbs.
- Must be physically and medically qualified to wear all required personal protective equipment per OSHA standards.
Work Environment:
- Job requires regular attendance with the ability to work flexible hours, overtime, weekends, and holidays.
- Potential for exposure to electrical shock, mechanical hazards, fumes, and other risks found in a shipyard environment.
- Compliance with strict company safety procedures and policies is critical.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- May indirectly supervise and/or train subordinates as assigned to their crew.
