Position Summary:
Eastern Shipbuilding is looking for a Crane Operator 1/C to perform crucial lifting and material moving tasks within the shipyard using various types of cranes. This individual must possess the technical knowledge and certifications necessary for operating cranes safely and effectively. The role requires the ability to work flexible hours, including overtime, weekends, and holidays.
Key Responsibilities:
- Operate cranes to lift, move, and position materials and products safely and efficiently.
- Regularly inspect and adjust crane mechanisms and accessories to prevent malfunctions and wear.
- Interpret load charts and utilize Load Moment Indicator (LMI) systems.
- Conduct multi-crane lifts, pick-and-carry operations, and understand universal hand signals for crane operation.
- Perform tasks with minimal supervision and adjust machinery controls to exact positions.
Qualifications and Skills:
- High school diploma or GED, with a certification for TLL or LBC cranes.
- Knowledge of ship terminology, OSHA standards, and strong rigging skills.
- Ability to read and understand load charts and distinguish all units of measure.
- Obtain and maintain a current Department of Transportation (DOT) physical and National Commission for the Certification of Crane Operators (NCCCO) certification.
Physical Requirements:
- Coordination of limbs, making precise adjustments in machinery controls, and the ability to frequently lift/move up to 50 pounds.
- Qualification to wear all required personal protective equipment under OSHA standards.
- Ability to work at heights of a minimum of 50 feet and function in confined spaces under extreme temperatures.
Work Environment:
- Very active role requiring standing, walking, bending, and climbing throughout the workday.
- May encounter risks such as electrical shock and other hazards found in a heavy industrial shipyard environment.
- Compliance with safety procedures and policies, as well as personal safety equipment requirements, is mandatory.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- This position does not entail direct supervisory responsibilities.
