Job Description

Position Summary:
Eastern Shipbuilding is actively recruiting for a Welder 2/C to fulfill duties that involve welding components in various positions, inspecting welds for quality, and adhering to safety and environmental rules. The role includes fitting and tack welding component parts in position as part of Eastern Shipbuilding's ongoing projects.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform a range of welding tasks as directed, adhering to specified standards for quality and safety.
  • Fit and weld component parts accurately based on blueprints and work orders.
  • Inspect welds for bead size, angle, and meeting specifications.
  • Set up and operate various welding equipment for arc, gas-shielded arc, submerged arc, or gas welding.
  • Utilize precision measuring instruments to ensure proper alignment and gap allowances.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • High school diploma or GED equivalence with 1-3 years of flux core arc welding experience preferred.
  • In-depth knowledge of materials, methods, and work processes for fitting and welding steel.
  • Understanding of ship terminology, welding symbols, safety, OSHA, and ABS regulations.
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints and diagrams, as well as in using hand and power tools.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including frequent standing, walking, bending, and lifting up to 50 pounds.
  • Must be medically qualified to wear required personal protective equipment under OSHA standards.

Work Environment:

  • A very active role, potentially requiring flexible hours, including overtime, weekends, and holidays.
  • Exposure to electrical shock, moving parts, vibration, and other industrial hazards in a shipyard setting.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • This position does not have supervisory responsibilities.
